US government forces Anthropic offline
An export-control directive forced Anthropic to disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for every customer worldwide — with no court order and no public explanation of the national-security rationale.
The trigger reportedly boiled down to a "fix this code" jailbreak. Anthropic argues the same trick works on other public models like GPT-5.5, which aren't restricted — while Defense Secretary Hegseth posted that "every passing day" proves blacklisting Anthropic was the right move.
Critics say Anthropic wrote its own legal predicate: market a model as "too dangerous to release," and eventually a government takes you at your word.
